Scanning for Utilities in So. California

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. – GPRS – of Southern California was contacted by a survey company in order to scan for utilities prior to collecting our findings and placing them in CAD drawings. The purpose of our scan was to map out twelve 100’x100’ sites throughout the greater Bakersfield area; at each site there is a proposed trench path which will be within our scanning boundaries. These trench paths will contain new communication lines that will feed proposed cameras that are to be installed on existing light poles. We found that the soil conditions allowed for max GPR depths of 4’-5’ in most areas and among our findings were electrical, sewer, gas, water and communication lines. All findings were marked on the surface with spray paint and depths were provided when applicable.

GPR scanning is a great tool to use for post tension cables, rebar, and conduits; it can also be used to scan for underground utilities prior to digging or excavating. GPRS has offices throughout the entire state of California and performs projects in cities like; Ventura, Santa Barbara, Thousand Oaks, San Luis Obispo, Bakersfield, Lancaster and the greater Los Angeles area.
